Club Med Columbus Isle Boasts Green Globe Certification
May 1, 2009, Bahamas – Club Med Columbus Isle, Bahamas has achieved Green Globe’s prestigious bronze status under the globally recognised benchmarking program. This program recognises Club Med Columbus Isle’s commitment to operating to the world’s highest environmental standard.
In achieving bronze status, Club Med Columbus Isle committed to benchmarking its energy and water consumption, total waste production and community commitment; along with implementing an integrated environmental and social policy.
In particular, Club Med Columbus Isle has attained best practice results or higher in the areas of community commitment, paper products and cleaning products. These measures will ensure efficient practices and large cost savings, putting Club Med Columbus Isle on the path to securing a sustainable future for the environment.
“We are dedicated to offering sustainable tourism at Club Med resorts worldwide,” stated Olivier Bergeret, VP of operations at Club Med, North America. “This award is a true honour, and it spurs our enthusiasm to continue working towards our environmental vision.”
Benchmarking represents the first phase of Green Globe Certification. Club Med Columbus Isle will now continue its journey of sustainability by undergoing a third party verification of their commitment to the environment and compliance with the Green Globe Company Standard.
In addition to its onsite environmental practices, Club Med’s recently launched social media site, ClubMedInsider.com, has partnered with green consultant and writer, Keith Rockmael, in an effort to help build community and raise environmental awareness. Rockmael offers tips and recommendations on easy ways for guests to travel more sustainably; he also details Club Med’s environmental activities.

About Club Med Columbus Isle
Club Med Columbus Isle is located on San Salvador, a Bahamian out-island that features rarely frequented snorkeling and diving areas. Steeped in history, the resort houses a collection of hardwood sculptures and timeless masks as a nod to past civilizations worldwide. The property sprawls 89 acres in the cove of Bonefish Bay, an area rich in scenery, superb beaches, reefs and the first landfall site of Christopher Columbus in his initial 1492 voyage. From coral gardens to shipwrecks, the underwater sites offer an exceptionally rich environment to discover fauna and flora. Club Med Columbus Isle offers a “blue tourism” eco-dive program in partnership with Beautiful Oceans. The program provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the coral reef ecosystem, through online tutorials and underwater guided tours.
